Our Mission

Education is meant to liberate human beings and equip them with the intellectual capacity to solve societal problems. The Faculty aims to produce educational "human products" infused with the three major goals of education.

Our Vision

To have and maintain an enviable Faculty whose graduates can confidently match their counterparts anywhere in the world and contribute effectively to societal improvement. This vision aligns with the university's motto, "Ut omnes excellent" (That all would excel).

Leading Education in Arts, Management & Social Sciences

The Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences at Peter University (PU), Achina/Onneh, Anambra State, Nigeria, was established as one of the pioneer degree-awarding faculties of the university. It officially commenced academic activities in the 2023/2024 academic session.

At its inception, the Faculty housed the following eight departments and programmes:

Accounting

Business Administration

Criminology and Security Studies

Economics

Mass Communication

International Relations and Diplomacy

Political Science

Peace and Conflict Resolution Studies

2. Expansion of Programmes (2026)
In the year 2026, the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) granted approval for three additional programmes to be offered under the Faculty:

Social Works

Psychology

Philosophy, Politics, & Economics (PPE)

3. Faculty Leadership and Management
The pioneer Acting Dean of the Faculty is Dr. Emefiena Ezeani (PhD). He works closely with other teaching staff and the university management, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Professor Emmanuel Umezinwa. Together, they have been diligently working to advance the Faculty and the university as a whole.

The Faculty is managed under democratic principles, emphasizing a committee system characterized by practical collegiality and teamwork.

4. Innovative Internal Courses
In compliance with the NUC requirement that 30% of courses be internally generated, the Faculty has developed and teaches the following novel courses:

PU-GST 111/112: Leadership, Ethics and Development

PU-GST 213: Essentials in Igbo Religion and Culture

PU-GST 214: Cooperative Collegial Democracy

5. Academic and Extracurricular Roles
The Faculty plays significant roles in both academic and non-academic spheres at Peter University, including:

Organizing skill acquisition activities

Arranging academic debates and workshops involving both students and lecturers

6. Guiding Philosophy: "Ima" (Knowing)
The Faculty’s educational approach is guided by the "Ima" Philosophy, which is based on three imperative goals of education:

Ima ihe (Sophia/Wisdom): Acquisition of analytic intelligence.

Ima nke m (Self-knowledge): Acquisition of common-sense or social intelligence.

Ima-akwukwo (Textbook knowledge & skills): Acquisition of academic intelligence.

The Faculty welcomes candidates from every part of the world, hoping to help students become truly wise, honest, and educated individuals with high self-esteem for their own good, their families, their societies, and humanity.

Dr. Emefiena Ezeani is a Catholic priest, writer, social analyst, and lecturer at Peter University. He serves as the pioneer Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences.
